Dicţionarul general al literaturii române (DGLR) [The General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature] is among the fundamental research projects of the Romanian Academy; its completion relies on the activity of research in the fields of literary history and literary lexicography which has been specific to our department since its foundation and the results are several works published either by Editura Academiei Rom âne [The Romanian Academy Publishing House] or by other publishing houses as well as in various academic journals. Among them, the series of studies about the history of Romanian literary criticism achieved between 1963 and 1968 coordinated by prof. univ. dr. Alexandru Dima and prof. univ. dr. Nicolae I. Popa, Dicţionarul literaturii române de la origini până la 1900 [The Dictionary of the Romanian Literature from its Origins till 1900], a work that started in 1968 being printed in 1979 at Editura Academiei Rom âne [The Romanian Academy Publishing House] (awarded “Timotei Cipariu” Prize by the Romanian Academy, 1979), as well as the second edition of the same work published by Editura Academiei Rom âne [The Romanian Academy Publishing House] and Editura Gunivas (Chişinău) [Gunivas Publishing House, Chişinău] in 2002. In 1975 the members of the department started work on a Database of the Romanian literature between 1900 and 1950 that was necessary for the creation of a general dictionary of Romanian literature; at the same time they started to gather documents in a Literary Archive deriving from an investigation using questionnaires and from direct contacts with writers, with some writers’ heirs, with different cultural institutions, with the National Archives etc. with the same purpose. Starting with 1994, the members of the department in collaboration with “G. Călinescu” Institute of Literary History and Theory of Bucharest and with other groups of researchers of Chişinău, Cluj, Timişoara etc, have been working on Dicţionarul general al literaturii române(DGLR) [The General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature] – a work with national impact consisting in seven volumes published by Editura Univers Enciclopedic [Univers Enciclopedic Publishing House] between 2004 – 2009; in 2012, Dicţionarul literaturii române [The Dictionary of the Romanian Literature], in two volumes, was published by Editura Univers Enciclopedic Gold [Univers Enciclopedic Gold Publishing House]. At present the researchers of the department are working to accomplish the second edition of Dicţionarul general al literaturii române(DGLR) [The General Dictionary of the Romanian Literature]. Another project of the department is Enciclopedia scrierilor memorialistice româneşti [The Encyclopedia of the Romanian Memoirs Writings], which some of the members of the department have been working on since 2014.
At the same time the members of the department have initiated other projects too, with national or international funding, and have been active in the fields of literary criticism and history, comparative literature, as well as in other domains of cultural life (philology, theatrology, publishing activity etc).

Şerban Axinte won a grant awarded by the Postdoctoral School of the Romanian Academy, „Valorificarea identităţilor culturale în procesele globale”, with his project Poetici ale romanului european reflectate în critica românească postbelică [Poetics of the European Novel Reflected in the Romanian Post-War Criticism]; the project was co-funded by the European Social Fund through Programul Operaţional Sectorial pentru Dezvoltarea Resurselor Umane 2007–2013 (Contract POSDRU/ 89/1.5/S/59758; the period of the grant: 1 February 2011 – 31 January 2013).
